Young women encounter challenges everyday. Some, apart from sharing their communities’ struggles over limited resources like water, land or jobs, many systematically face discrimination simply by virtue of being female. This includes physical and sexual violence, being kept out of school, disproportionate vulnerability to HIV infection and lack of access to property and other rights.
Yet young women around the globe possess the collective power to change their lives, communities and the world we live in. Just as they face daily challenges, young women are continually developing innovative, effective ways to improve their lives. By bringing together their wisdom and creativity, young women are leading change. Understanding that investing in young women’s leadership is essential to social change now and for the future.
Empowering Young Women to Lead Change is designed to support the development of young women’s skills and to enable them to provide leadership on the issues that concern them. It offers engaging and dynamic activities to motivate and enable young women to believe in their abilities to catalyze change and to mobilize others to do the same. It is a flexible tool for learning and exploring issues from human rights and violence against women to body image, self-esteem and developing leadership skills.
The Nervy Girl Foundation creates it's own coaching style utilizing the NLP and experiential Methods (not to be confused with experimental), but also follows several others, mostly noted, the manual put in place by UNGPA and World YWCA.
UNFPA works with a range of partners and with young people to encourage the development of young women and men through participatory, culturally sensitive and rights-based programs.
UNFPA is pleased to partner with the World YWCA in producing this manual, which it believes will be a most useful resource in developing and empowering young people.
These workshops are designed to help young women find their voice, their passion and their place in life.
Along with one-on-one coaching, The NERVY Girl also conducts various workshops. Some topics that we cover are:
BODY IMAGE: This workshop offers ways to prevent and understand negative body image by critically examining harmful messages presented in the media and common attitudes and myths in society at large. We also explore how negative body image and low self-esteem can be linked with unhealthy behaviors such as disordered eating and over-exercising, risk-taking and the impact on mental wellness. Participants will discuss how they can feel better about their bodies and learn skills to support others.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: This workshop looks at effective communication skills in everyday life with an added focus on consent and healthy ways to communicate in romantic relationships. We will explore passive, aggressive and assertive communication styles as well as the negative impacts of rumors and gossip. Youth will have the opportunity to practice assertive communication and respectful listening skills.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP: This workshop touches on all the aspects of starting, managing and operating your own business. We cover what it means to be a Young Woman Boss and Young Lady CEO in todays society and we do a small business plan that you will have to refer back to. Click HERE for a free consultation.
We hold Networking Events so that these young ladies can meet others that share some of their same interests, as well as give the older girls an opportunity to become mentors or 'big sisters' to the younger ones.
& so much MORE...
